Snow Colors

Isn't that a pretty sight?

I need to get a better picture of the ice, above. It really is such a deep shade of blue green. That's the only spot where I've seen it that color.
In health related news-- Ken and I haven't gotten sick, so maybe we dodged Walt's germs. He told me that he feels just about back to normal today. Lucky boy, the tamiflu must have gotten to him in the nick of time to lesson the symptoms.

The Stalker

See the ears?
Can you blame her? Sort of, since I feed her 4 or 5 times a day, so I know she's not hungry. And Ken was the one who shoveled a small spot by the lamp post so he could stand there while filling up the feeder; makes a perfect spot to hide and observe. So far the birds are alert enough to stay away from the one that she's nearest.

Wind and the Poopin Trail

We had strong winds this afternoon, and the snow looks like sand dunes on a beach now. It's supposed to reach 40 degrees by Friday. If we can make it through Wednesday healthy, there's a good chance we'll have dodged Walt's awful germs.
Rusty is a creature of habit. He has a routine for everything. He is polite enough to do his business at the far end of the yard, and he is smart enough to follow his old tracks through the snow, hence the Poopin Trail.
Back deck before the wind
After the wind. The circles are old prints from PuppyCat
Mother trimmed her rose bushes yesterday. Mine are under there somewhere
Headed down the trail
For such a tubby boy, he can run pretty fast in the snow

Geese, Germs, and Geneseo

This is usually a busy place with trucks lined up to be filled with road salt.
There were geese everywhere.  Flying in all directions. I wonder why?
Walt sounded unusually tired when we spoke on Friday.  Saturday morning I get a text from him--"I'm sick". Dizzy, cough, fever. He slept a while longer and then decided that maybe we should drive up and take him to a clinic. He looked like a red eyed zombie, to say it kindly. There was no one else in the clinic, so Ken and I have only been exposed to one thing, the flu. His temp was 104.
Today he is still a zombie, but a clearer eyed one with a small appetite. We're taking him back tonight, because he thinks he's going to two classes tomorrow. Who wants to place a bet?
They've got much less snow than us

Look at how flat the  land gets once you're past Dansville.

Pax?

I'm not sure if that's this storm's name or not. They're all the same. I'm hoping the next one, because there will be one, is called Quigley. Ken roasted a chicken and I made a chocolate coffee cake for Valentine's. The cat got to eat the chicken innards; poor Rusty got nothing. Walt had a physics exam last night and a biology test this morning. He sounds exhausted. My goal for the day(I give myself one every morning!) was to dump the compost containers out back. The snow's so deep that the dog and cat just sat on the deck and watched me stumble down the slope.
7 a.m this morning. Have no idea why I was up so early.
Why didn't those apples fall off the tree months ago?
The dreaded coal pile is under there
See the hole he's in? There are a few of them. Notice the trails in the background? Deer beds, I guess. Should've put the animal cam here last night.

Hey, Walt- I Bought My Own Apple!

Down the hill, toward civilization
Up the hill, can't drive that way for 3 or 4 more months
Aluminum apple, only $2
Odd, melted clouds

Not unusually deep, just neverending
Waiting for Puppy to chase him
Driveway plowed.
The deep drainage ditch at the end of the driveway at the road. The caution posts have been buried a long time
Not too deep for me!
Sorry, Puppy.  This house is big enough for only one dog.
We found the aluminum apple in Hammondsport. See the weird sky in the second picture? That was the oddest day--we drove from Elmira to Bath for shopping, then got on I86 west for home, since the back roads need a 4WD in winter. After  a while, we realized we were on a totally different freeway heading north. It felt like we were missing time. The sky was odd and seemed a bit Twilight Zoney. Then I see a phone message from Aunt Dot saying she was returning my call, and that I'd even left her a message.  I hadn't used the phone all day. Near home we saw our neighbor(same truck, coat, and hat) at a spot he'd told us the day before that he'd be at, and he looked up and waved. Passing his house a couple minutes late, we saw his truck parked. Have you ever had one of those days? I remember once when I was a girl scout, I came home from a meeting and fell asleep on the couch until supper, and it seemed like a totally different day when I woke up.  Maybe it's just the winter crazies...

Well, I'm Sure I Could Find A Few Words--from February's Boredom Files

This is one of the grossest dog food ads I've seen. It covers the whole page. Made with real meat, and loaded with grains and vegetables. Call me crazy, but all I see is the result of a dog with tummy troubles. Come on, Purina, you gave some marketing firm big bucks to come up with this? But you know, there's a blueberry pie and half of a birthday cake in the freezer that's been calling my name, maybe I should stick this ad on the fridge door to help me abstain.

February Funk

I'm so tired of winter. I can't believe it's only the 5th of Feb; it feels like the month should be over with already. Maybe that's because I've been seeing Valentine crap in the stores for over a month. We went to Corning yesterday to browse the antique stores again but it seemed to depress me even more. Then we stopped at a shop in Elmira. I don't think anything there was under $500. I'm surprised they didn't frisk us as we left. The stuff looked like it was from some castle--chairs with backs over five feet tall, armoires the size of a car, just tons of froo froo stuff. The whole place reeked of sickening sweet perfume.
Wake me up when March is over.
He treats his toys horribly
This one lost his leg and head-stuffing within 3 minutes.
In order to keep him from eating the cat, I told him it's a puppy. So far he is behaving around it. I just hope the cat never squeaks.
