Rochester Zoo

We went to Rochester Tuesday.  The zoo is tiny; we walked it in just over an hour. The nice part about it, though, is that you can see the animals up close. The bird house is just one large room, and the birds walk all around you. It was odd to see how the zoo is right next to a small neighborhood on one side, and the Genesee River on another. The houses were virtually next door.  I bet they hear some cool sounds at night.
The landscaping was gorgeous. Whatever that is, I want it. (Balloon flower?)
This little guy was a nut. He wandered all over the place like a drunkard, and if one of them knocked it off his head, he'd grab it and put it back on. A really big, old one walked up and knocked a baby out of the box, then sat and held the box so no one else could sit in it. We all know that type, right?
They never moved--I suspect they're stuffed...
I'd never seen a polar bear before, so I was at first excited.
10 to 15 minutes later, he shifted to this position...
I love the ladies' faces. All the men that walked up nonchalantly looked around, then sneaked  a pic with their phones.

    1. We've entered the final countdown until Walt leaves. In order not to lose our minds to sadness, we've been doing more things together. I've been baking his favorite sweets and cooking his favorite meals. 20 days left.

    2. I know the treats will not end just because he goes away. They will be even more special by mail.

  2. Think of the time like a bag of really good potato chips. You only have a few left in the bag, but you know there are more bags. And after not eating chips for a while, think of how good they will be again! Ok, sorry. That was a dumb comparison. I have nothing to make it easier, just my word that it will get easier. Just maybe later than sooner. Just read a blog by a woman who sent her 9 yr off to summer camp. The child seemed to have a way-better time than the mom.

  3. Looked like a relaxing day at the zoo, for the animals anyway! The Wichita zoo is fairly large. You have to do a lot of walking to get from one exhibit to another, and then you have to hunt for the animals. I guess that is good for the animals tho, having lots of room...During the summer on Fridays, the fire department brings a truck out and sprays water on kids in a grassy field. It's quite fun!We used to do it when L was small.
